Hi from San Jose, CA

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking & getting good information from this site for a few days, and just baked my first sourdough today. I've been baking for several years now, but not the artisan-style breads. What got me started was the bread machine we received for Christmas, and getting the book, "Rustic European Breads for your Bread Machine". It's been a lot of fun & I'm interested in learning more.

Here's my first attempt - the bread kind of split & bulged out on the side, and the other side got a little too brown. It tasted great, though. Hopefully the more I bake these styles of breads, the better I'll get at it.

Welcome!

Hi, Carrie.

Welcome to TFL!

Your bread looks pretty darn good for a first sourdough hearth loaf. And it will only get better with experience.

Happy baking!

David

Thanks for the kind words

Thanks for the kind words David!

I've also been reading Peter Reinhart's book "The Bread Baker's Apprentice" as well. Looking forward to baking again next weekend - I'm thinking of throwing in some rosemary & olives, or maybe some asiago. :)
